Our History

Founded in 1970, Lake Malawi Sailing Club has grown from a small group of sailing enthusiasts to one of the premier sailing destinations in Africa. Here's our journey:

1970

Club Founding

Founded by a group of 12 sailing enthusiasts who wanted to create a community for sailors on Lake Malawi. The first clubhouse was a simple wooden structure near Cape Maclear.

The Lake of Stars

The Lake of Stars

Lake Malawi, also known as the "Lake of Stars," is Africa's third largest lake and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its crystal-clear waters and consistent winds create ideal sailing conditions year-round. With over 500 species of cichlids found nowhere else on Earth, the lake is both a sailor's paradise and an ecological wonder.
